Gorgeous Antique Mt. Washington Diamond Quilted Pattern Cased Glass Paperweight. This 3 3/4" Pink Orb Paperweight Manufactured 1880-1890. A pearl satin finish in pink that graduates from a fuchsia pink to a very light pink. The unique handblown method creates pillow style diamond with some of the diamonds that run into each other(see pics). A stunning piece of art glass that is over 100 years old!
The Method of case glass:
Mount Washington Glass Company produced diamond glass in the form of a diamond quilted satin glass vase around 1885. The glass is Victorian in style, with a soft satin finish, uniform diamonds, and subtle shading gather of glass, often of opal glass, was blown into a mold. Then, a second layer, usually of colored glass was blown over it to seal the air in the design of the mold. The effect is charming and made this glass a favorite of the day.
