Description

Antique Dutch or German Repousse Silver ashtray or tobacco holder and match holder on the top . Six peasant scenes reflect everyday life on the farm. In good antique condition with one of the ball feet a little bent but easily could be bent back(see Pics). It has been polished. Very interesting Tobacciana collectible. There is a hallmark(see Pics) and the number 83638. Would also make an interesting plant holder(see Pic.)

Repoussé or repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. Chasing or embossing is a similar technique in which the piece is hammered on the front side, sinking the metal.
