A popular antique piece of office equipment from the 1920’s. This was introduced as a check writing protection machine. The original manufacturer was Checkometer Sales Company founded in Chicago in 1917 . Its original product, unsurprisingly called the “Checkometer,” was the invention of a Chicagoan named George M. Willis. Invented to prevent fraudulent check writing it was a very useful accounting machine. The gray, black and red paint is in good antique condition. The wooden knob on the lever is a distinct feature to the age of this 1920’s piece of office equipment. The Checkometer Sales Company would later become the Paymaster Corporation.
The Checkometer would make a nice display in an accounting or finance office.
