History of Half Dolls
Half dolls are porcelain or bisque figurines with a head, arms, and upper body but no legs. They were fashionable in the early 20th century and were produced in the thousands in Germany.
Half dolls were not toys or figurines, but were produced as useful objects. They were often attached to everyday objects like whisk brooms, pincushions, and powder brushes to add elegance to a lady's dressing table. They were also used as bottle stoppers, lamp shades, and powder puffs.
The majority of half dolls were produced between 1900 and the 1920s.
